Pretty string sections and this British singer-songwriter’s gently delivered lyrics mask the bitter nature of the song off his second album, “Songs for the Road.” He’s at Webster Hall on Friday.

* God or Julie, “Say Your Last Goodbye”

Influenced equally by Britpop and epic alt-rock, the Brooklyn quartet leads its new record, “This Road Before,” with this moody but uplifting song. The band plays Mercury Lounge tonight.

* David Saw, “Buy My Record”

Not one to mince words, the British artist charmingly urges you to support his tunes with help from a plinky piano. He’s at the Cutting Room on Thursday.

* Jacob Golden, “Out Come the Wolves”

This singer leans heavily on acoustic guitars to tell a tale of heartbreak on this track off his album, “Revenge Songs.” He’s at Housing Works Used Book Café on Friday.
