NASCAR is still king compared to the NBA.

A Saturday night match-up between the NBA Playoffs — a conference semi-finals game between Cleveland and Atlanta — and a NASCAR race from Darlington, SC, was no contest at all, according to preliminary ratings.

Car racing on Fox drew 6.5 million viewers to the NBA’s 4.5 million on ABC. The NBA finals are still a month away, which may account for the poor showing.

Saturday is traditionally the least-watched night of the week, so networks are starting to experiment with moving sports that would normally air during the day on weekends into primetime — in hopes of perking up ratings.
