“How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris confirmed Tuesday he will return to host the Tony Awards.

“I’m honored and stoked to have been asked to host the 2011 Tony Awards,” Harris said in a statement, confirming reports he was the top pick for the June 12 ceremony at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

“It should be a great show — we’ve got a fantastic mix of live performances, a few secret surprises, and since they’re closed for retooling, we’re using all the rigging equipment from Spider-Man. What could possibly go wrong?” he joked.

The 37-year-old was lauded for his hosting duties at Broadway’s prestigious award show in 2009 — picking up an Emmy for his previous stint.

The former child actor of “Doogie Howser” fame has starred in three Broadway productions himself and directed a concert production of “Rent” in Los Angeles last summer.

“The Book of Mormon,” the musical from the creators of “South Park,” nabbed the most Tony nominations this year (14), though few of the celebrity names lighting up the Great White Way were included in the list of nominees.

“The Scottsboro Boys,” an edgy musical involving blackface and a racially-charged rape trial, followed with 12 nominations, while the latest revival of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” took in nine nominations.

A number of high-profile actors were overlooked including Daniel Radcliffe, star of the musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” Chris Rock, star of the well-reviewed play “The Motherf**ker with the Hat,” and Ben Stiller, who is starring in a revival of the John Guare play “The House of Blue Leaves.”
