LOS GATOS, Calif. — Netflix Inc.’s US subscribers will have exclusive access to Weinstein Co.’s foreign language, documentary and certain other movies, such as “The Artist,” under a multiyear licensing agreement.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Netflix said the Academy Award-nominated films “The Artist” and “Undefeated” will make their pay-television debut exclusively on Netflix rather than on traditional premium cable.

A diverse slate of Weinstein specialty films will also appear exclusively on Netflix within one year of their theatrical release, including the French-language World War II drama “Sarah’s Key” and “Bully,” a documentary about bullying in America’s schools.

Last month, Netflix said its members watched more than two billion hours of TV shows and movies through its streaming service during the fourth quarter, as the company continues to increase its focus on building its streaming-content offerings.

Over the past year, Netflix has signed several deals to increase its streaming offerings, including adding shows from the CW network and Walt Disney Co. movies and TV shows. The company also is developing its own original content, including “Lilyhammer,” the tale of a New York gangster in Norway, which premieres this month.
