CBS is expected to announce a fall slate today featuring Bette Midler’s first-ever series and a show loosely based on the life of “Late Show” host David Letterman.
“Bette,” starring Midler playing a variation of her sassy self, is perhaps the network’s biggest series announcement, followed by “The Fugitive,” based on the ’60s series and 1993 Harrison Ford movie about a man wrongly accused of murder.
Also expected to be on CBS’ schedule is “Mr. New York,” produced by Letterman’s production company, Worldwide Pants. That series stars Jim Gaffigan as a midwestern weatherman who makes good in New York – much like Letterman himself, who worked as a local TV weatherman in Indianapolis.
Former “Cybill” star Christine Baranski co-stars in “Mr. New York.”
CBS has also green-lighted “Yes, Dear,” which stars Mike O’Malley from last season’s short-lived “Mike O’Malley Show,” and “The District,” a crime series with star Craig T. Nelson (“Coach”) as an ex-Washington police commissioner.
Gone from network are “Chicago Hope,” “City of Angels,” “Martial Law,” “Ladies Man” and “Early Edition.”
