New York’s rock revival may be hung on the Strokes, but it takes more than one band to build a scene. Here’s a quick update on some of the other acts from that broke into national awareness around the same time as “Is This It”:

Interpol

After its distinctive 2002 debut, “Turn on the Bright Lights,” the band released “Antics” last year, nearly quieting the persistent Joy Division comparisons. The post-post-punkers capped their tour with a stop at Radio City Music Hall and, in November, released a remix CD-EP – which is what all the cool kids are doing lately.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

“Coco Beware,” the long-overdue follow-up to “Fever to Tell,” the sassy punk trio’s 2003 debut, is due in March. Karen O, who moved to L.A. and dates filmmaker Spike Jonze, is working on a solo album while guitarist Nic Zinner is the second-hardest-working DJ in New York (Interpol bassist Carlos D is the first).

Radio 4

Among the first of the Gang of Four followers, the New York dance-punk act hit it big with “Dance to the Underground,” but its third album, 2004’s “Stealing of a Nation,” didn’t have nearly as much impact.

Longwave

After two well-received discs from the lush pop rockers, two founding members left the band. The group’s third album, “There’s A Fire,” hit stores in June.

Mooney Suzuki

Shortly after its major-label debut, “Electric Sweat,” the Who-loving rockers gussied up “Don’t Fence Me In” for a Nike ad, toured with Lollapalooza 2003 and wrote the title track for “School of Rock.” “Alive & Amplified,” its third studio album, came out last year.

The Walkmen

The punk-garage group’s most recent EP, “Christmas Party,” offers a profane “Eggnog” song. Meanwhile, the band has begun writing its third disc, after two well-received, organ-imbibed albums, “Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone” and “Bows + Arrows,” and an appearance on “The O.C.”

Best Of The Rest

Other promising local groups to watch include Calla, the Liars, Elefant and the French Kicks. All have new or upcoming albums worth checking out.
