NEWSCASTER’S NEW CASA
LOCAL TV news veteran J.J. González is the new managing editor of “Noticias 41,” the three-times-a-day newscast on Spanish-Language Univision 41 (WXTV).
González, 68 – best known for his 28-year stint at WCBS/Ch. 2 news – will oversee a staff of seven on-air reporters.
He starts next Monday.
“Univision hopes to change their look and make their reporters even more in tune with the Hispanic community,” he said.
“If you see a fire, a fire isn’t just a fire. It isn’t just about people losing a home or a sofa. They’ve also lost the pictures of their grandmother,” González said.
He says he hopes to expand coverage to include the human side of news stories – beyond the nuts and bolts of daily disasters and City Hall press conferences.
After leaving Ch. 2 in 1995, González spent two years as press secretary for Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer.
He has since worked at local cable TV’s Bronxnet Community Programming Corp., first as a consultant and then as its news director.
