NUMB FROM NERDS
PRIMER [] (One star)
SHOT for $7,000 in a self-storage facility, a hotel room and someone’s garage, Shane Carruth’s “Primer” is a real head-scratcher that somehow won the grand jury prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Carruth and David Sullivan blandly play a couple of technobabble-spouting geeks whose endless conversations and experiments with a mysterious apparatus they’ve invented are guaranteed to provoke yawns.
The humorless, self-important narrative is so impenetrable, you’d have to consult a synopsis to know they’re traveling back and forth in time in increments of a few hours, with unforeseen consequences.
Running time: 80 minutes. Rated PG-13 (profanity). At the Angelika, Houston and Mercer streets.
