OPRAH VISIT HELPS ELLEN
ELLEN DeGeneres won Thursday’s “Oprah vs. Oprah” battle at 4 p.m. – sort of.
Winfrey’s visit to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” at 4 p.m. on Ch. 4 pushed “Ellen” to some of its biggest numbers of the season.
But “Ellen” still failed to put a dent in “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which airs at 4 p.m. over on Ch. 7 – and has been steamrolling “Ellen” all season.
Thursday’s “Ellen” averaged 241,000 viewers, up from only 104,000 viewers the day before.
But Thursday’s “Oprah” averaged a winning 532,000 viewers – up 34,000 viewers from the previous day, according to Nielsen data.
“Ellen,” however, also saw a spike in its target demo of women 25-54, a group coveted by advertisers.
That number rose from a 0.22 on Wednesday to a 0.92 on Thursday. “Ellen’s” numbers in all demos, in fact, rose significantly.
Winfrey’s visit to DeGeneres benefited both talk- show hosts, at least from a public-relations standpoint.
DeGeneres was drumming up interest for her Oscar-hosting gig tomorrow night – and Winfrey was shilling her Thursday-night ABC Oscar special, which snared 18 million viewers.
