WHO gets to play Al Franken on “Satur day Night Live“?

Now that “SNL” has its first alum in the US Senate, the question arises: Can Franken come back and play himself?

Or does the show need to cast an actor to play the first Senator with stand-up comedy experience?

The new Senator from Minnesota has suggested that Fred Armisen — who has recently been playing Barack Obama — before changing his mind to Alec Baldwin, a regular guest, in an interview this week with the AP.

Officials at “SNL” yesterday declined to talk about it.

As a cast member, Franken proclaimed the ’80s the “Al Franken Decade” while in character as a shameless self-promoter — and now “SNL” has at least six years to poke fun at their former satirist.

Franken was one of the original writers on “SNL” from 1975 to 1980 before becoming a regular cast member in 1985.

Cameos by politicians are of course a fixture on “SNL.” Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain and Sarah Palin all appeared on a show that has skewered them.
