ROBERT BOBBERT

“Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine”

Robert Schneider, frontman of popular indie rock band Apples in Stereo, brings his brand of catchy, upbeat tunes and bizarro bloops and bleeps to his children’s debut on Little Monster Records, the label responsible for Medeski, Martin, & Wood’s excellent kid’s release last year. Pretty much every track is a sugar rush of bouncy pop hooks and out-there noises — from the surf rock of “Hey Little Puppy” to the helium-voiced electro-rap of “Fee Fi Fo, Fee Fi Fum,” told, this time, from the viewpoint of the mouse.

With most songs barely breaking two minutes, the 221⁄2-minute album leaves us wanting more.

THE BRIAN WAITE BAND

“20,000 Volts Under the Sea”

Describing themselves as “three dads who formed a rock band that performs adventure stories,” the Brian Waite Band chronicles its journey to an undersea gig at the Neptune Theater in Atlantis City.

This is a lighthearted concept album for the young ‘uns, complete with loads of silly aquatic humor and songs ranging from slippery-when-wet disco (“Disco Don”) to the electrified “Blue Whale Blues.”

The funkier and bluesier numbers are the best, but this is a band that can really mix it up.
