AS THE CLASSIC CHEVY ad goes, it’s time for baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and . . . rock ‘n’ roll.
Summer is the season when down-and-dirty rock comes out of dark, beer-soaked clubs to the sunny, beer-soaked outdoors.
Down by the seashore, the New York Dolls headline Siren Fest in July and the Fray brings its emo-licious “Grey’s Anatomy” hit to Jones Beach. Instead of minor league baseball, dance-happy Daft Punk steps up to the plate at KeySpan Park in Coney Island. And at McCarren Pool, wear a bathing suit so you can slip and slide at the JellyNYC free music parties.
The trifecta of free summer sounds are at Central Park SummerStage, the River to River Fest and Celebrate Brooklyn! in Prospect Park, which offer genre-crossing musical mixes under the city’s open skies. On Independence Day, River to River is even offering a complimentary pre-fireworks bash with the New Pornographers.
