REEL GOOD
BRAVEHEART (1995)
Sunday, 12 noon, A&E
Five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director went to Mel Gibson’s incredible movie (not to mention incredible hair extentions) of 13th-century Scotsman William Wallace who led tribes of Scottish rebels against the oppressive English king. The sweeping vistas and photography are second only to Sophie Marceau and a cast of superb actors.
ANALYZE THIS (1999)
Monday, 9 p.m., Spike TV
This terrific comedy about a conflicted Mafia don (Robert De Niro) who needs to see a shrink (Billy Crystal) came about the same year as “The Sopranos,” the series about a Mafia don who went to a shrink. And it’s very funny – in fact it’s almost as funny as the old “SNL” skit with John Belushi as a conflicted Mafia don in group therapy.
STUART LITTLE 2 (2002)
Monday, 8 p.m., Disney
Fans of “Stuart Little” will warm to this sequel in which Stuart, feeling lonely and over-protected, saves a canary who then moves in with the Littles. When the bird goes missing, Stuart goes into action. Voiced by Michael J. Fox, Geena Davis, and – yes! – Hugh Laurie of all people.
THE APARTMENT (1960)
Wednesday, 2:45 p.m., TCM
Fans of “Mad Men” will love this comedy about corporate America filmed way back when. Jack Lemmon is a clerk trying to climb the corporate ladder by lending his apartment to married executives needing a place to cheat. Too bad the elevator operator he yearns for (Shirley MacLaine) is the boss’ side dish. Five Oscars, including Best Picture, went to this Billy Wilder comedy
