RICKI TALKS AGAIN
RICKI Lake is trying to get back into the talkshow biz.
Lake – whose long-running, self-titled, syndicated daytime show finally wrapped up last year after 11 seasons – is in serious talks to produce and star in a new talk show geared toward women, according to the TV industry trade magazine Broadcasting and Cable.
The new show was originally pitched with a format similar to ABC’s multi-hosted chatfest, “The View,” but has since been recast as a one-woman effort aimed at a females a bit older than the audience courted by Lake’s previous show.
When launching her original show in 1993, the host was in her mid-20s. Now Lake is a 37-year-old divorced, single mother.
Three studios have expressed interest in pursuing it, according to sources.
Lake would have a significant ownership interest in the show, which complicates the deal-making process. But negotiations are moving ahead.
“I would be very surprised,” says a source, “if there was not a coming-to-terms on this by the end of the month.”
