Git yer fiddles out folks, it’s time for Fifth Annual Big Apple Bluegrass & Folk Festival 2002.

The strumming and humming event, held at the Baggot Inn in the Village, kicked off last night and continues today and tomorrow from noon until 1 a.m.

Today, Chip Taylor, the singer/songwriter who penned “Wild Thing” and “Angel of the Morning,” and Texas fiddler Carrie Rodriguez, will perform tunes including their European country hit, “Sweet Tequila Blues.”

Other performers include Uncle Fugger, the Badbelly Project, and Brooklyn Browngrass.

On Sunday, bluegrass musicians Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike treat audiences to a gospel show.

Also on Sunday, Irish fiddling legend Tommy Peoples and Billy Kelly, Meg Griffin’s Trainwreck featuring Buddy Cage (New Riders) and Stained Glass Window get in on the act.
