TIM Russert’s stranglehold on Sunday-morning TV took a detour last week – straight into Disney World.

For the first time in recent memory, Disney-owned ABC’s “This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts” won the Sunday-morning public affairs race, beating Russert’s “Meet the Press” in total viewers (3.3 million) and winning in all key news demographics (adults 18-49 and adults 25-54).

“Meet the Press” snagged 3.1 million viewers – its smallest total-viewership numbers since June 1998 and 7 percent behind “This Week,” which featured Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura as its guest.

“Sunday mornings are very competitive, and we plan to make them even more so in the future,” said an ABC News spokeswoman.

“Meet the Press,” however, still won in total households – and is on target to win in total households for 52 weeks straight .

The show also won the second quarter and has won for seven quarters straight – its best showing since 1980.

An NBC News spokeswoman declined to comment.
