SOUVENIR SPOONFUL
THOSE killer-rabbit slippers from “Spamalot”? So yesterday. This year’s must-have souvenir is the parrot-handled umbrella from “Mary Poppins.”
Big, black and sturdy, the adult-size brolly – modeled on the one that lifts Mary over rooftops – has been flying off the shelves since the show started previews Saturday at the New Amsterdam. At $40 per (same price as those bunny slippers), it isn’t cheap, though it’s a bargain compared to the “retractable beak” brollies Disney sells for $99.95 on the Internet.
And that heavy, beaky handle – ideal for thwonking wayward chimney sweeps or the random mugger – makes it more lethal that the Perfectly Perfect cocktail also for sale in the lobby.
Unlike the booze, however, the umbrella will not get you high.
