‘Super Dave’ returns

Bob Einstein, better known to current TV viewers as Lar ry’s pal Marty Funkhouser on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is gearing up to revive his other alter-ego — bumbling stunt man Super Dave Osborne.

“Super Dave is coming back,” says Einstein. “It will be four shows for Spike and I think it’ll be on in November.” Einstein, the older brother of Albert Brooks, originated the character on ’70s variety shows hosted by John Byner, Dick Van Dyke and Redd Foxx. Super Dave went on to star in his own Showtime se ries, a Fox cartoon (“Super Dave: Daredevil for Hire”) and a slew of specials.

“It’s going to be a lot differ ent than the other shows and there are going to be lots of stunts,” he says of his upcom ing show on Spike, which is also the home of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (and which will eventually figure into the “Super Dave” uni verse). “In the fourth show I’m gonna fight the [UFC] champion,” Einstein says.

As for “Curb,” which re turns in September after nearly two years, “It’s gonna be a killer year,” says Ein stein, who’s known series creator Larry David for 12 years (they used to play golf together). “I love Marty Funkhouser — but what is he?”
