CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod has written “In the Long Run,” which will be published May 17 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Axelrod, who covered the White House for CBS News and is now a national correspondent, got the idea for the book back in 2008. While covering the Democrats scrambling to grab the presidential nomination, he found his late father’s finish times from the New York Marathon — and challenged himself to see if he could beat his dad’s times while, at the same time, challenging himself to get his life together (he was overweight, “drinking too much, sleeping too little, and scarcely seeing his family,” according to the book’s promotional notes).

While training for the New York Marathon, Axelrod developed shin splints and passed a kidney stone, among other painful milestones, but finished the race with a time of 3:29:58 (you’ll have to read the book to see if he topped his late dad’s time).

The book’s jacket features blurbs from Ted Koppel (“He writes with all the understanding and hopelessness of an addict”) and Ann Arensberg, winner of the 1981 National Book Award (for “Sister Wolf”). “Readers will bond with him each step of his journey, from the opening sentence to the last exultant mile,” Arensberg writes, in part, about “In the Long Run.”

Judge Judy” will be on the air for at least another four years (and probably longer, when all is said and done).

Judy Sheindlin has inked a new, multi-year deal with CBS Television Distribution to continue “Judge Judy” through 2015, which will take the show through its 19th season (it premiered in September 1996).

Sheindlin and “Judge Judy” (4 p.m./Ch. 2) had a stellar 2009-2010 season last year, beating “Oprah” to become TV’s top-rated daytime show.

Sheindlin’s daytime brethren, “Access Hollywood Live” (11 a.m./Ch. 4) saw a spike in its ratings last Friday for its coverage of the Royal Wedding. “AHL” (Billy Bush, Kit Hoover) was the top syndicated show in New York, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in women 25-54 (with a 2.0) — beating usual timseslot champ “The View” in that demo — and finished second for the day (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in women 25-54 behind “Oprah.”

At 7:30 p.m. last Friday, the “Access Hollywood” mothership (Bush) notched a lusty 2.9 in women 25-54 to finish first (6:30-8 p.m.) in that demo.

The Royal Wedding was also a bonus for E! online, which set its single-day record last Friday with 23.6 million page views during its coverage of the festivities in London.
