STARR REPORT
Heavy in stature, light on his feet
Big Ruben Studdard boogied the night away with his brother, Kevin, in L.A. last Wednesday night after winning “American Idol 2.”
Studdard hooked up with runner-up Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson and Simon Cowell at Ian Schrager’s Skybar at Mondrian. Ruben was seen begging the DJ to “amp it up” with some hardcore hip-hop, then boogied to the tunes of Snoop Dogg, DMX, Jay-Z, Sean Paul and 50 Cent.
‘IE’ team Aces awards
“Inside Edition” senior investigative producer Bob Read and his team had to quickly exit the show’s wrap party at Le Bar Bat the other night – for good reason. Read et al. were heading over to the New York City Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Deadline Club awards (whew!) to pick up their award for Best Series of Investigative Reporting (on substance abuse and sex at teen clubs).
The team also won an Ace Award from the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators for a report on elderly women being scammed by dance schools that drain their savings.
‘Wake-Up’ is Foxx-worthy
Kiss FM (98.7) has reprised its “Kiss Wake-Up Club” with Jeff Foxx, Shaila, Bob Slade and Talent after syndicating it as a morning show the past two years.
The new “Kiss Wake-Up Club” will air every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:20 a.m. – giving listeners the chance, via its “Big Money Birthday Game,” to win $1,000 if they’re the first to call in (800-288-5477) after their birthday is announced (that prize is bumped to $10,000 on Thursdays).
WE kids you not
You don’t often see vampires and romance mentioned in the same sentence – but, apparently, some women think the neck-biters are, well, sexy.
At least that’s the thought behind WE’s “Night Bites,” which premieres Wednesday. The special, according to WE, “dares to ask why so many women are continually drawn to these mysterious characters, and features real women from across America revealing their own often romantic fantasies about the culture’s bloodiest and baddest boyfriends.”
“Night Bites” airs 10 p.m. and features interviews with John Landis, Ann Magnuson, “Buffy” executive producer Marti Noxon and Anne Rice, among others.
Says Noxon: “You have your evil cake and get to eat it, too.”
Last, but not least . . .
Tomorrow on “Special Report with Brit Hume” (6-7 p.m./Fox News Channel): Brit Hume talks with FNC correspondents Greg Kelly, Rick Leventhal, Maya Zumwalt and Jamie Nelson about their embed experiences during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Gina Lynn taped a segment for VH1’s “The Fabulous Life of Hip-Hop” concurrently with filming a “Sopranos” episode.
Mystery scribe J.A. Jance (“Exit”) has signed with Stephen Moore of Paul Kohner, Inc. for theatrical and television projects.
LL Cool J will attend a party in his honor tonight at the Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park after his Jones Beach concert. “B-Man” Brian Rosenberg doing his show live from the yacht club (7-9 p.m.) on WLIR (92.7 FM) and Party 105.3 FM.
Congrats to WFDU’s “Cover to Cover” host John Sanders, who won First Prize in the radio category at the Garden State Journalist annual awards presentation.
More softball: “Maury” beat “Montel” 11-6 last Thursday night over at 52nd and 11th.
