Good sports: Russ, Monica hosting telethon

Ch. 9 sportscaster Russ Salzberg will host the New York portion of the “Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon,” airing from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6:30 p.m. Monday on Ch. 9. Salzberg will be joined by his Ch. 9 sports co-anchor, Monica Pellegrini.

Guests will include Miss USA Kandace Kruger, Giants running back Tiki Barber, Denise Richardson and “Rosie O’Donnell Show” bandleader John McDaniel.

‘Wall’ mart for Fallon album

“Saturday Night Live” cast member Jimmy Fallon (“Weekend Update”) is featured in the October issue of Spin magazine, out on newsstands Tuesday.

Fallon is scheduled to release his first album, “The Bathroom Wall,” early next year, but he won’t be following in the footsteps of former “SNL”-er Adam Sandler (a.k.a. “The Hanukkah Song”).

Fallon’s album was produced by DJ Mark Ronson and Justin Stanley.

“There are only five songs on the album,” he tells Spin. “A disco song, a rap song. I figure I’m a comedian first. I’m not trying to make a career out of this; I’m just trying to make the funniest album I can. There’s plenty of stand-up stuff about my college years. Stuff about fake IDs, and that little fridge in your dorm room.”

Ashford leads a ‘DOOL’ life on newsstands

“Days of Our Lives” star Matthew Ashford has been “outed” by Soap Opera Digest – but it’s not what you think.

The Sept. 4 issue of SOD has a cover line saying Ashford’s character, Jack, is gay (he claimed he was gay to ward off the advances of a woman he considers just a friend).

“There’s a blurb on the cover of Digest saying I’m gay,” Ashford says. “I’ve gotten calls from the likes of my mother-in-law in St. Louis who said, ‘I was on line at the grocery story and I looked down and see this magazine and shrieked!’

“I joked to her, ‘I’m sorry you had to find that out at the checkout. And her husband said, ‘Well, I knew he was gay.’ “
