STARR REPORT
ABC, Dee
Sandra Dee, who passed away Sunday at the age of 62, never headlined a TV series, but ABC certainly had her in mind when it morphed two of her movies into series – both of which debuted in 1965.
Dee shot to stardom in 1959’s “Gidget,” which was turned into a series six years later with Sally Field in the title role. That show, alas, ran for only one season before ABC pulled the plug.
The network didn’t have much better luck with “Tammy,” based on 1957’s “Tammy and the Bachelor,” which starred Debbie Reynolds, and its two sequels – “Tammy Tell Me True” and “Tammy and the Doctor” – both of which starred Dee.
ABC’s “Tammy,” which also lasted just one year, starred Debbie Watson in the title role as Tammy Tarleton.
Last, but not least:
* Hey, isn’t that? Part 1: Giants star Tiki Barber makes his morning TV-hosting debut on today’s “Fox & Friends” (7-9 a.m./Fox News Channel). He’s subbing for Steve Doocy opposite regulars Brian Kilmeade and E.D. Hill.
* Hey, isn’t that? Part 2: Melissa Brasselle appears March 15 in Court TV’s “Impossible Heists.” If she looks familiar, that’s because her mom is Arlene DeMarco of the famed DeMarco Sisters.
* Kudos to Ch. 5’s James Ford, who’s being honored at Allstate New Jersey’s “From Whence We Came” Black History Month celebration.
* News 12 Long Island’s Elisa DiStefano, the girl friend of Ch. 2’s Jeff Berardelli, is on today’s “Oprah” (4 p.m./Ch. 7) – where she’s surprised with a dream date with Enrique Iglesias.
* Greece is the word: Ch. 2’s Ernie Anastos getting the Humanitarian Award from the Hellenic Times at their May 21 Marriott Marquis gala, according to Zocalo buzz.
* ‘KTU’s Lil Cee has been cast in the indie film “Pulse” as a club DJ. The flick’s filming in the area.
* I’m sorry to report that Jan Murray, formerly of King World, passed away Feb. 13 while caring for her mom in Arizona. Jan was one of the nicest, most caring people in the business. She will be sorely missed.
