STARR REPORT
Radio daze at ‘NEW
Here we go again . . . WNEW, which changes formats and lineups with alarming regularity, has now dropped RuPaul from its DJ roster after six months, according to Post radio scribe John Mainelli. A station spokesperson said RuPaul and WNEW officials couldn’t agree on a new contract. No replacement has been announced.
Meanwhile, Fox News Radio’s “The Alan Colmes Show” launches here Monday, April 4 on WWRL (1600 AM). It’ll air weeknights (10 p.m.-midnight).
And “Early Show” co-anchor Harry Smith begins his “Harry Smith Reporting” segments today on WCBS (880 a.m.). His segments will air daily at 4:42 p.m., occupying the same slot as the now-ended “Dan Rather Reporting.” Smith is no stranger to radio; his resume includes stints at KHOW and KIMN in Denver and WLW in Cincinnati.
Last, but not least:
* Today: Willard Scott marks 25 years on NBC’s “Today” show. He’ll be live in D.C. and will be feted with a video tribute.
* Tonight: Ch. 4’s Janice Huff and local dynamo Bernice Nelson are among the women honored at the Schomburg Center of Research and Culture (135th St.) to commemorate Women’s History Month. It’s sponsored by the Metropolitan AME Church.
* Frank Sesno, who left CNN in 2001 after 17 years, is returning to the network as a special correspondent, contributing to “Paula Zahn Now” and “CNN Presents.”
* Hi-5, the kids show with an influential patron in “Today” show co-host Matt Lauer (his son is a big fan), copped its first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Pre-School TV Series.”
* March 17: Martin Costello hosts the “16th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Road Show Special” on the Armed Forces Radio/TV Satellite Network and on soldiersradio.com.
* Congrats to former NBC PR exec Cory Shields, who’s been named senior VP, communications, for Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
