BARBRA Streisand will probably star in the television version of the musical “Mame” next season for ABC, according to news reports.

Streisand, who is executive producing the film for the “Wonderful World of Disney,” was originally not expected to appear on camera.

However, the diva has said she would consider the possibility once the screenplay was finished.

Now, network sources say it’s likely Streisand will star in the musical because a screenwriter — Peter Tolan — and a director — Rob Marshall — she wanted have signed on to the project, according to Daily Variety.

Tolan wrote “Analyze This,” while Marshall directed ABC’s hit musical, “Annie.”

If Streisand does take the part it would be her first starring role in a TV musical.

The singer is currently wrapping up a series of concerts in Australia and is expected to read Tolan’s script when she returns to the U.S.
