There’s something odd about the Columbia Pictures logo that greets you at the start of “Superbad,” the new comedy from Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow. The turquoise-and-yellow screen seems to have been dredged up from the early ’80s – which is, not coincidentally, the heyday of the raunchy R-rated comedy, a genre that’s been making a much-heralded comeback over the past few years.

Rogen, who began writing the script for the semi-autobiographical “Superbad” when he was 13, is well-versed in the cinematic furniture of the genre: Virgins aspiring to lose said status. Unattainably hot girls. Evil frat-boy adversaries and/or joyless authority figures. Boob shots. Bodily fluids. Unprintable language.

But the crowning achievement of this movie – produced by Apatow, his director in “Knocked Up” – is its primary sight gag, which involves one of the characters’ obsessions with doodling in his notebook. The joke’s introduced mid-movie and followed up at great, uh, length in the movie’s credits. We’re not going to blow the joke, but let’s just say you’ll never look at a kid armed with a ballpoint pen and looseleaf the same way again.

On that note, we were inspired to look back fondly on our other favorite raunchfests, and the various subjects they’ve cheerfully defiled for us.
