BROOKE WHITE, the 24-year-old former nanny from Mesa, Ariz., must have seen the end of her run on “American Idol” coming. She was crying even before host Ryan Seacrest announced she was “going home” this week.

“This is going to be terrible for me right now,” Brooke said, tears streaming down her face. “But thank you.”

The show was overshadowed by the latest “Idol” controversy – Paula Abdul’s reviewing two songs by one of the contestants, when he’d sung only one.

Fans were buzzing yesterday that her mistake revealed the show was actually scripted – and Abdul had read the wrong thing.

Seacrest gave Abdul a vote of confidence last night by emphasizing that she’s “part of the family.”

Meanwhile, Syesha Mercado, 21, of Florida was the last contestant spared from elimination.
