Hollywood Rebel
JUVENILE delinquent, reform school denizen, daredevil, movie star – all these labels apply to Steve McQueen. The late actor, who died in 1980 at 50,blazed his way through a short, eventful life that is captured in a new documentary,
“Steve McQueen:The Essence of Cool.” He drifted into acting after a series of odd jobs, and his stage and screen presence were noted immediately. He did Broadway (“A Hatful of Rain “)and TV (“Wanted:Dead or Alive “),but McQueen ‘s greatest success came in movies, where his rugged intensity powered a string of macho classics such as “The Magnificent Seven ” (1960),”The Great Escape ” (1963)and “Bullitt ” ((1968). His on-screen chemistry with Faye Dunaway in the original “Thomas Crown Affair ” in 1968 showed that he could play the suave leading man as
well. The documentary comes on the 75th anniversary of McQueen ‘s birth and the 25th anniversary of his death.

(“Ring My Bell “)and Wilson Phillips (“Hold On “).If the name Dan Finnerty doesn ‘t ring a bell,he and his band
