‘THE Green Mile” didn’t win anything on Oscar night, but that hasn’t stopped the distributor, Warner Bros., from proclaiming in newspaper ads on Tuesday that the movie was “winner” for best-adapted screenplay and best-supporting actor, the two Academy Award categories for which it was nominated.

Only when you read the fine print in the ads did you discover that the prizes for “The Green Mile” came from the obscure Broadcast Critics Association, not the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Warner Bros. did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
