The Bar Belles have been huge fans of Beauty Bar, the East Village salon/saloon, for years now, so imagine our excitement when we learned it had been given a face-lift.

How do you improve on perfection?, we asked each other as we hastened downtown, reminiscing about long nights spent sipping dry martinis at the campy theme bar, which originally opened as a beauty parlor in 1966.

We discovered that decorative mastermind Deb Parker has done wonders with a bit of spit and polish and – yes! – added a new room at the back of the typically crowded front bar.

All our fave kooky accouterments are still there: the serried row of hairdryers against the wall, the barber chairs and the fabulously kitsch ads for beauty products.

Plus, there’s the new Blue Rinse Lounge – a sleek and shiny blue-hued room with its own curved bar.

So get your good self down there for a martini and a manicure. As Ms. Parker is wont to say: Beauty is your duty!

Beauty Bar, 231 E. 14th St. (between Second & Third avenues); (212) 539 1389.
