Reynolds raps

Debbie Reynolds is contemplating a return to weekly TV – in a sitcom produced by Whoopi Goldberg.

“Whoopi is talking to me about doing an ‘Auntie Mame’-type of character in a sitcom,” said Reynolds, who guest stars as Grace’s (Debra Messing) mother-from-hell in Tuesday’s episode of “Will & Grace” (9 p.m. on Ch.4).

“Whoopi and I were doing ‘Hollywood Squares’ about six months ago, and she said, ‘Would you consider doing a weekly sitcom?’ We’re just talking about it right now.”

Tuesday marks Reynolds’ second “Will & Grace” appearance.

‘Browne’ out at 2?

CBS-owned WBBM in Chicago has bought Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s Paramount-produced talk show for next fall – bumping Eyemark’s “Dr. Joy Browne” from its afternoon lineup in September, according to a ‘BBM spokeswoman.

So what effect, if any, will this have on “Joy” here in New York? The little-watched freshman talker airs 3 p.m. weekdays on Ch.2, and sources say Ch.2 has also bought “Dr. Laura” for next season.

A Ch.2 spokeswoman said it’s “too early” to make any decisions.

And for those of you who do watch “Joy,” it’s not your imagination: A broken toe has forced her to host the show barefoot.

Getting a leg up

This is how rumors get started.

Connie Chung didn’t break her leg – but she did injure her foot recently while at “The Lion King” with son Matthew, 4.

“We were in the mezzanine section, which has very steep steps,” Connie said. “I got my heel caught in the carpeting . . . and my foot went back.

“I watched the whole first half of the show, but when I stood up for intermission I could tell I had hurt my foot,” she said. “It’s only a strain and I’m wearing one of those Velcro boots.” Connie is soldiering on with her “20/20” duties.

Sat. Night Springer?

Studios USA is exploring a new show for Jerry Springer for late-night on Saturdays. More than 100 stations that now air Springer already show a repeat from the Monday-Friday strip on Saturday night. “We’re going after the humor aspect,” in a new weekly show, a company official says. Meanwhile, Mr. Springer already has a deal with British TV to do a late-night talk-variety special. “The Starr Report” can be reached via e-mail at mstarr@nypost.com.
