THE STARR REPORT
A ‘Kosher’ idea
Is America ready for a rabbi in prime time?
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, author of Doubleday’s “Kosher Sex,” is pitching a talk show he hopes to get on the air by Fall 2001.
“We haven’t finalized the idea but it’s a very interesting concept,” says Boteach. “It’s something that’s never been done on TV – the synthesis of the new and traditional in dating and relationships.
“There’s a new movement afoot with men being intimate,” he says. “Men need to be educated about relationships as much if not more than women.”
Boteach says a hoped-for presentation at the NATPE Convention last January never materialized, but he’s now gearing up his efforts.
“There’s been interest expressed and people find [the show idea] compelling,” he says.
So, would it be a daytime or evening talk show?
“I prefer evenings, because you can have more adult and mature conversation,” he says. “But a lot of TV people feel it would be [slotted in] daytime syndication.”
Boteach says interest in his show is predicated on how several other relationship shows fare this fall.
He’s a good sport
Fashion designer Joseph Abboud is a huge sports fan – so much so that he designs the duds worn by CBS football personalities Greg Gumbel, Phil Simms, Dick Enberg, Dan Dierdorf and Sam Wyche – just a few of the “NFL Today” and “NFL on CBS” crew.
Abboud will preview his fashion designs for those two shows when CBS Sports holds a cocktail reception next Monday at the Museum of Television & Radio to hype its coverage of next January’s Super Bowl.
Putting on heirs
“The Legacy.” It’s haunted everyone from Pete Rose Jr. to Laila Ali – and now even GOP presidential nominee George W. Bush.
On tomorrow’s “48 Hours” (10 p.m. on Ch. 2), Erin Moriarty and Harold Dow take a look at the pressures and expectations placed upon offspring of famous people like boxer Ali, daughter of Muhammed Ali.
