THE STARR REPORT
A ‘New York’ story
Winona Ryder is putting CNN on ice – literally.
Karina Chobanyan, an assistant producer on CNN’s “Street Sweep” hosted by Jan Hopkins, is also a figure skater. Who knew?
Chobanyan was called on to double for Ryder’s Rockefeller Center skating scenes in the new big-screen movie “Autumn in New York,” co-starring Richard Gere.
“I’ve only been skating for two to three years,” says Karina, who shot her scenes last November in the Wollman rink in Central Park.
Karina, who’s seen the movie, is pleased with the results.
“You can see me in some wide shots and you see me lying on the ice when Richard [Gere] runs out and picks me up,” she says. “And you see my name in the credits.”
It’s for the kids
Disabled children are near and dear to “All My Children” star Cameron Mathison – for good reason.
The strapping Mathison, who stars as con man Ryan Lavery on “AMC,” suffered a crippling bone condition as a child and endured several years in a massive leg and hip brace.
On Aug. 21, Mathison will once again donate his time to play some golf for the Lyons/Sambora Charity, which raises money for disabled children’s programs through Disabled Sports USA.
“The suffering I went through as a child gave me the motivation to fulfill my dreams,” Mathison says.
“From the moment I got the braces off, I just tackled life.”
John Sambora, one of the charity’s namesakes, was the first cousin of Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.
Now he’s a visionary
Maybe it takes an ex-cop to know these things.
Author Jerry Kelly (“Honor for Sale”) was the first to predict, on CNN’s “TalkBack Live,” that NYPD commissioner Howard Safir would throw in the towel – which Safir did earlier this week.
Kelly, who served on the NYPD narcotics squad, will be on the tube next week (CNN, Fox News Channel, CNBC) to discuss his prediction and his thoughts on Safir’s successor on the beat.
Kathie’s new ‘Love’
Stop the presses: Kathie Lee Gifford’s new single for Universal Records has been retitled and will now be called “If Love Never Fails.”
The single, Gifford’s first pop effort, is out Sept. 19 with a promo campaign spearheaded by Steve Leeds and Universal chief Monte “The Full Monte” Lipman.
