Weather or not . . . here comes Rogers

Ch. 2’s hiring of popular weatherman David Rogers from WKYC in Cleveland has some insiders questioning Rogers calling himself a “meteorologist” instead of a “weatherman” – an age-old debate in the weather community.

The headline in Ch. 2’s press release announcing Rogers’ hiring (he starts Oct. 8) bills him as “weeknight weather anchor,” while the body of the release calls him a “meteorologist” – information Ch. 2 gleaned from WKYC’s website, which bills Rogers as its “chief meteorologist.”

“He’s got a good track record in major markets – but he has no meteorological credentials,” says one source. “There’s no such thing as a ‘certified’ or ‘licensed’ meteorologist.”

Rogers says he minored in meteorology at Temple University (he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio/TV/Film) and says he was certified as a meteorologist by the National Weather Association.

Many New York weathercasters – including Nick Gregory, Chris Cimino and Lee Goldberg have degrees in meteorology. Mr. G and Ira Joe Fisher do not.

Rogers has a solid reputation and is extremely popular in Cleveland. He’s replacing Mark Danon, busted on coke charges in May.

‘Welcome’ mat put out for Bogosian

Eric Bogosian is joining the cast of “Welcome to New York,” which debuts Oct. 11 and is based loosely on David Letterman’s career.

Bogosian will play the recurring part of Robbie, a network programming chief overseeing the Manhattan TV station employing transplanted Indiana weatherman Jim Gaffigan (played by, er, Jim Gaffigan). Also joining the cast is B.D. Wong as Robbie’s assistant.

Boyz concert ‘Saves’ nearly $60 million

Monday night’s Boyz II Men concert at the Beacon Theater was a huge success in raising money for VH1’s “Save the Music” campaign.

Universal Records promo chief Steve Leeds reports that the concert raised almost $60 million – and that Boyz II Men are already in talks with VH1 to perform in one or more future concerts to benefit “Save the Music.”

This just in . . .

MetroChannels’ “Full Frontal Fashion” (over 250 hours!) begins tonight with Judy Licht, Christina Ha and Robert Verdi hosting.
