THE STARR REPORT
Court TV nabs Fuhrman for trial
Mark Fuhrman has inked a deal with Court TV to provide commentary on “Catherine Crier Live” during Michael Skakel’s murder trial.
Skakel, accused of killing Greenwich, Ct. neighbor Martha Moxley in 1975 when he was 15, is being tried as an adult. Fuhrman’s book based on the case, “Murder in Greenwich,” is generally credited with getting Connecticut cops to reopen the unsolved murder and charge Skakel, the nephew of Ethel Kennedy.
Fuhrman, the ex-L.A. cop who was a controversial figure in O.J. Simpson’s criminal trial, will provide daily, on-air analysis of the Skakel trial on Catherine Crier’s show (5-6 p.m.).
“The reason we’ve hired [Fuhrman] is because he’s an expert on this case and has been credited by Mrs. Moxley with having helped resurrect the case,” says a Court TV spokeswoman.
“I’ve always had a great experience with Court TV and I couldn’t be happier than working with them on the Skakel trial,” Furhman says.
Fuhrman was supposed to do the same sort of commentary for ABC’s “Good Morning America” in March 2000 when Skakel was arrested, but it never came to fruition.
“We’re really pleased that Mark is going to be in business with Court TV,” says Fuhrman’s manager, Lynda Bensky. “We hope it’s the beginning of a fruitful relationship.”
Skakel’s trial date remains undetermined.
‘Joan’ jets its way to first-place finish
It looks like ABC has a midseason hit on its hands with “What About Joan,” starring Joan Cusack.
Tuesday’s episode, the show’s second, averaged 9.7 million HHs and finished first from 9:30 to 10 p.m., helping lead ABC to a prime-time victory.
“Joan” also held onto 92 percent of its opening-week numbers and grew a bit out of its “Dharma & Greg” lead-in – no small feat, considering that “Dharma” has been in a ratings slump most of this season (but rebounded nicely on Tuesday).
