Tom Selleck has spoken.
The “Magnum, P.I.” alum has addressed whether he might make a cameo in the new “Blue Bloods” spinoff, “Boston Blue,” following the original series’ surprising cancellation.
“I don’t know if I would do ‘Boston Blue,’ ” Selleck, 80, told Hour Detroit. “That’s another show.”

Selleck at 92nd Street Y in New York in 2024. Getty Images“I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure ‘Blue Bloods’ has its place in television history,” he explained. “But I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”
Selleck portrayed Frank Reagan, an NYPD officer and later police commissioner, on the hit CBS show from its 2010 premiere until its finale last year.
The series also starred Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes.

The final season concluded last December, and “Boston Blue” kicked off in October.
“It was a huge disappointment, and I still don’t know why CBS did it,” Selleck said regarding the “Blue Bloods” cancellation. “If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television.”

“I don’t know where my next job will take me,” he said last year. “A good Western is always on my list. I miss that. I want to sit on a horse again.
“I would love to do another comedy. The right kind of comedy,” the “Three Men and a Baby” star continued. ” ‘Friends’ made people laugh and cry at times. That’s the kind of comedy I enjoy doing.”

“I’m open to suggestions, because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked,” he told the outlet. “I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere.”
Wahlberg, meanwhile, revealed what Selleck thinks of the new “Blue Bloods” spinoff during a chat with Parade last month.

Marisa Ramirez (Maria Baez) and Moynahan have already made guest appearances in the spinoff, leaving open the possibility that Selleck may eventually show up.
“Of course, I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do,” the “Band of Brothers” star, 56, told the outlet shortly after “Boston Blue” premiered.

Wahlberg in “Blue Bloods.” CBS via Getty Images“And I can’t really get into the details of those conversations, but he’s been very supportive,” he added. “I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes.”
Wahlberg said that Selleck must be the one to decide whether he returns for “Boston Blue.”

When the time comes, we will hopefully craft an idea that moves his heart and makes him want to do it,” Wahlberg said.
