NEW York’s top-rated female DJ is off the air.

Valerie Smaldone, 49, the voice of 106.7 Lite FM, left the station yesterday after she failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. She had been with the station, which regularly ranks at the top of the radio ratings, for 24 years.

Smaldone was reportedly sought after by WOR-AM several years ago, and may end up at a competing station.
