Naomi Watts is being wooed by a big hairy ape named King Kong.

The Australian actress (“Mulholland Drive”) is the leading contender for the female lead in a new version of “King Kong,” to be directed by Peter Jackson (“Lord of the Rings”), says the Hollywood Reporter.

She’d play Ann Darrow, the woman who wins Kong’s heart.

The role was immortalized by Fay Wray in the 1933 original and re-created by Jessica Lange in 1976.
