TODAY

COMPOSE YOURSELF: The third- and fourth-graders at PS 187 used their eyes, not their ears, to compose the “NiÑos’ Concert”: They made shapes and diagrams to represent melody, then allowed Pedro da Silva to “read” the drawings and turn them into a symphony of sorts starring two precocious pianists: 14-year-olds Jeremy Cohen and Lilian Finckel.

3 p.m., $10 for kids, $20 for adults.

El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Ave., between 104th and 105th streets; (212) 831-7272.

PIG OUT: Bet you’ll lay off the bacon after celebrating National Pig Day at the Tisch Children’s Zoo. On-premise porkers Otis and Oliver will be honored with a morning of activities like pig mask-making and a “snort-off” contest at 11:15 a.m. Those who snort best get to help feed the hogs. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., free with admission ($8 for adults, $3 for kids). Central Park, 64th Street and Fifth Avenue; (212) 439-6500.

TOMORROW

WIGGLE ROOM: That responsible rabbit, Uncle Wiggily, gets an update in “The Further Adventures of Uncle Wiggily: Windblown Visitors.” This time around, the long-eared gent is a Hurricane Katrina aid worker who speaks in verse. Masks and puppetry round out the socially conscious message. Today at 3 p.m., other times through March 23, $12. Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., between Ninth and 10th streets; (212) 254-1109.

TRUE COLORS: There’s more to color theory than “yellow and blue make green.” Develop palette prowess at MoMA’s “Color Matters” workshop, part of the Closer Look for Kids program, where children ages 5 to 10 (and their grown-up companions) see how different artists use hues. Free tickets (which include museum admission) will be distributed beginning at 10 a.m., workshop at 10:30 a.m. The Museum of Modern Art, 54th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues; (212) 708-9400. – jburtwang@hotmail.com
