The legendary art director behind “Wheel of Fortune’s” iconic horizontal wheel has passed away.

Ed Flesh died Friday of congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 79, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Ed was a brilliant designer whose work has been enjoyed by millions of viewers over several generations,” longtime “Wheel” host Pat Sajak said in tribute.

If it wasn’t for Flesh, the familiar landscape of the Wheel set might have been a lot different — it was Flesh’s idea to have the spinning wheel lay horizontally instead of vertically.
