IT wasn’t creatures from outer space that killed the original 1978 version of “Battlestar Galactica” after just one season.

Pricey, space-age special effects and low ratings proved to be far more deadly.

Each episode of the show, which starred Lorne Greene as the captain, was rumored to cost about $1 million, which at the time was an unheard of sum.

The original also sparked a lawsuit from the producers of “Star Wars,” claiming the show was a rip-off.

“Galactica” got another shot in 1980 with a new version that lasted eight months.
