RAFAEL Nadal’s victory Sunday over Roger Federer earned NBC its best Wimbledon men’s final numbers in eight years.
The pair’s epic, five-set battle – the longest match in Wimbledon history – averaged a 4.6 overnight rating, up 44 percent over last year’s finale, when Federer beat Nadal.
It was also the highest men’s final overnight rating involving two non-US players since 1991 – when Michael Stich defeated fellow German Boris Becker.
Saturday’s women’s final match, in which Venus Williams defeated sister Serena, also scored big for NBC.
That match snared the best overnight ratings for a Wimbledon women’s final since 2005 (when Venus defeated Lindsay Davenport).
