VICK’S DOGS IN REHAB
THE rehabilitation of disgraced NFL star Michael Vick’s 22 fight-trained pitbulls is going to be made into a TV series.
The dogs – who probably would have been destroyed if not for the high-profile of their owner – have been moved to a desert animal sanctuary in southern Utah, where their re-training is being documented for a new National Geographic Channel show called “Dogtown.”
The sanctuary, also called Dogtown, is one of the largest no-kill animal facilities in the US.
The organization is overseen by a team of skilled animal rehab experts who try to resocialize animals with a history of abuse or violence.
The series will focus mostly on four of the toughest dogs seized by officials from Vick’s property last year.
Vick – once one of the NFL’s most promising quarterbacks – has been sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in a big-bucks dog-fighting ring.
After lying to officials for months, he later admitted that he “hung” a dog because it wasn’t a good fighter.
