Rockefeller Center celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C., with a spectacular tribute to the history of aviation called “Centennial of Flight.” It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., through Aug. 18.
On display: full-size replicas of the 1903 Wright Flyer, the Red Baron’s 1917 Fokker Triplane, the Space Shuttle cockpit and a replica of the Mercury Redstone Rocket that launched the first American into space in 1961 – not to mention a virtual reality aviation simulator to ride in (for $5). Afterward, come in for a landing at one of these nearby restaurants.
