ARLINGTON, Texas — “New Girl” star Zooey Deschanel defended herself Monday for leaving Game 4 of the World Series early after she sang the national anthem.

While Deschanel was praised for her rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner,” cameras panning the crowd noticed the actress’ empty seat during the seventh inning of Sunday night’s game between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.

“Would have loved to have watched the whole game but I had to catch a plane so I can go to work tomorrow. That’s all guys. I’m not a jerk,” she tweeted to fans about having to bow out early.

In addition to her starring role on the FOX comedy, Deschanel, 31, is part of the singing duo She & Him.

The group, which also features singer Matt Ward, released its Christmas album Monday.
