A magic weight-loss pill may be available in the US in the next three years.

The device, called Elipse, packs a gastric balloon into a capsule that the patient swallows. Once it’s consumed, the shell dissolves and the balloon expands to the size of a grapefruit inside the stomach, making users feel fuller and causing them to eat less. After four months, the balloon is naturally excreted.

Early research with 34 patients in Europe (it has yet to be approved by the FDA) showed that they lost an average of 22 pounds each.

Farewell, dieting!
