A friend of the emotionally tormented Dutch teen who starved herself to death with the consent of her parents and doctors, paid tribute to her pal this week, writing that she’ll miss her terribly, “but it’s better this way.”

Joyce Scholten posted a selfie of her and 17-year-old Noa Pothoven smiling on Instagram Monday — a day after Pothoven was allowed to die in her Arnhem home, where her parents and doctors agreed not to force-feed her or put her into treatment against her will.

“Goodbye sweetheart. I love you infinitely,” Scholten captioned the touching image.

“I’m going to miss you terribly, but it’s better this way,” she wrote. “I’m going to continue the fight and show you up there that I can do it. I love you.”

Pothoven’s death was initially reported as a state-sanctioned euthanasia, but she died from starvation and dehydration.

The anguished teen suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and anorexia stemming from a childhood rape and sexual assault at age 11. She had sought death by euthanasia from a medical clinic a year ago, without her parents’ knowledge, but was rejected.

Reports of Noa’s pleas to end her life sparked a worldwide debate about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
