When Macy’s unveils its 42nd annual flower show on Sunday, visitors will be treated to a plethora of patriotic blossoms.
About 30,000 plants representing nearly 200 species will be spread out along the Herald Square store’s ground floor.
“We made eight gardens that pay homage to various regions across the country,” says Mike Gansmoe, the show’s executive director.
One of them, the Enchanting Southeast, is chock-full of magnolias, primrose and Algerian ivy, while the Pacific Northwest Wonderland boasts a sculpted 6-foot salmon.
But the centerpiece of the show is a replica of the Statue of Liberty’s torch. That alone is made up of more than 8,000 blossoms — roses, azaleas, blue orchids and more — its flame made of strawflowers.
Gansmoe expects more than 50,000 visitors to check out the show, which runs through April 3.
