When you’re stressed, a bag of chips will only lift your mood so much. Instead, Dr. Jenny Taitz, a clinical psychologist and author of “End Emotional Eating,” has simpler — and healthier — tips to raise your spirits.

Stop and smell the roses

“Smell can be really powerful,” says Taitz, who recommends keeping a favorite bottle of perfume or candle handy to inspire a happy state.

Pair photos with tunes

“If you look at pictures of loved ones, it reduces physical pain,” says Taitz. Same goes for music, so build a slideshow with a soundtrack.

Taitz advises using song to stop negative thinking. Try harmonizing a bad thought to a Beyoncé (above) hit.

Give yourself a jolt

Splash cold water on your face or apply Tiger Balm to distract yourself from gloomy thoughts, says Taitz.

Smize (smile with your eyes)

Take a tip from Tyra Banks (above) and exude joy with just your eyes. “[It] can change your mood,” says Taitz.
