The average Thanksgiving meal adds up to about 3,000 calories, according to the Calorie Control Council. Luckily, plenty of races in and around the city will help you work off all those helpings of turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes. Here are five of the best.

• FDNY Turkey Trot

  When: Tuesday; registration starts at 10:30 a.m., and the run kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
  Where: 209 Cross Bay Blvd., Broad Channel. The 5K takes runners along scenic Cross Bay Boulevard.
  Info: $25; payable on race day

• New York City Running Tours Thanksgiving Day Run

  When: Thanksgiving Day; 8:30 a.m.
  Where: Meet at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue in front of the Apple Store. The 4-mile Central Park run goes through Literary Walk, into the Ramble, up to Belvedere Castle, through Strawberry Fields and down Central Park West, following the parade route.

• 67th Annual Lou Marli Turkey Trot

  When: Thanksgiving Day; kids’ races begin at 8 a.m., 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.; men over 40 and women start at 9 a.m.; men under 40 start at 9:45 a.m.
  Where: 1150 Clove Rd., Staten Island. The 3-mile race loops twice around Clove Lakes Park.
  Info:The race is free, but organizers ask participants to bring nonperishable food donations. Sign-up forms are on clipboards at the foot bridge when you arrive.

• New Ro Turkey Trot

  When: Thanksgiving Day; kids’ race starts at 8:45 a.m.; everyone else begins at 9 a.m.
  Where: New Rochelle City Hall, at Hamilton and North avenues, New Rochelle. The 5K and kids’ half-mile race trot through the grounds of the New Rochelle Historical District.

• New York City Turkey Trot

  When: Saturday; a kids’ dash (for those 8 years and younger) starts at 8:30 a.m.; the 5K and 15K begin at 8:45 a.m.
  Where: Firefighters Field, Roosevelt Island, 425 Main St. The course wraps around the northern tip of the island; the 15K route loops three times.
