The best place to catch 40 winks this summer? In one of the 50 red hammocks at this newly-opened nook on Governors Island, just a quick ferry ride from Brooklyn, Manhattan or Queens.

The wide, comfy hammocks are spread out over 10 acres, in clusters of just a few, so your nap never feels crowded.

Macy’s moved its Fourth of July fireworks to the Hudson River in 2009, robbing the East Side and outer boroughs of the splashy views they’d enjoyed for 32 years.

When Hurricane Sandy walloped New York City in 2012, the storm’s wrath ravaged Fort Tilden, the 100-year-old former US Army post that hides the city’s most gorgeous — and topless-friendly — secluded beach.

It was too damaged to reopen last year, but Tilden is finally welcoming back beachcombers this year — and sweetening the deal with concerts from heavy-hitters like Patti Smith, who’s performing June 29.

Good news for those willing to make the trek to enjoy relatively uncrowded stretches of sand — and to shed their bikini tops.
